At Yu Mei, we create carrying systems that simplify daily life. Each piece is considered—working in unison to streamline what you carry, how you move, and how you feel. Born from the idea that functionality and elegance can coexist, our collections are modular, regenerative, and timeless. Utility, regeneration, and refined design are the pillars that guide every detail, from concept to craft.

The Start of Yu Mei

Founded by Wellington-born Jessie Wong, Yu Mei began with a problem: no bag could carry a laptop and everything else she needed in a day. Drawing on her garment-making background and the time spent in the workshop of master leatherworker Bill Drake, Jessie began making bags that held more—more function, more meaning, more movement.

Material Intelligence

We work with regenerative New Zealand deer leather—an incredibly soft, strong, and supple leather that reflects our commitment to quality and care. Each Yu Mei piece is built as part of a larger system. Modular, versatile, and intentional, these are designs that evolve with you—across seasons, years, and life shifts.

Carried by Community

Yu Mei was founded in Aotearoa, but was made to move globally. Our community spans cities, disciplines, and moments in time—from creatives and cultural leaders to first-jobbers, new parents, and seasoned travellers.
