We want you to love your Yu Mei Bag. If it's not quite right, full priced items in original condition purchased on yumeibrand.com may be returned for a refund with Yu Mei within 21 days of receipt for New Zealand purchases, and 30 days of receipt for international purchases.
Care products, custom embossed items and discounted items are final sale and cannot be returned, exchanged or refunded.
Purchases that are accepted for a refund must be refunded to the original payment method, so if you were gifted a piece that isn’t quite right, we would be happy to chat through options with you via email or in person, at one of our Lounges.
Returned items must not have been worn, altered or washed and must have all original tags and packaging intact. Your return must be accompanied by proof of purchase.
Yu Mei reserves the right to decline any returns.
Items purchased through the Yu Mei Lounges in Wellington or Newmarket may be returned within 21 days for an exchange or Yu Mei credit. In-store purchases are not eligible for refunds.

We offer free returns for online purchases within New Zealand. Simply return to one of our Yu Mei Lounges, or contact us via contact@yumeibrand.com and we can arrange for your return to be posted back to us.
If you are outside of New Zealand you may return your purchase to us, however the return postage is the responsibility of the customer. We would highly recommend using a traceable shipping method as Yu Mei does not accept responsibility for any lost returns, and for international purchases Yu Mei will not refund any costs associated with Customs or Duties.
Yu Mei ships to most locations including worldwide via DHL. Please allow 2-3 working days for your order to be dispatched.

Items on pre order will be processed as usual but shipped at a later date. The date is specified on the product page and you will receive a confirmation email once your order has been shipped.
For any orders that also contain in-stock item(s) we will contact you to confirm if you’d prefer your item(s) shipped separately, or together once the pre order item is in stock.

Rest of World
As orders are shipped from our New Zealand warehouse you may incur duties, clearance fees or local taxes. Yu Mei Ltd does not cover these charges and is not liable for any fees incurred; although we will always do our very best to ensure a smooth delivery to you. For more information, we advise you to check with your local customs agent.
If you are unable to pay your taxes and duties within the required timeframe, the item(s) will be returned to Yu Mei. Returns will be processed between 5-7 days after arriving back to our warehouse. Refunds will be processed via your original payment method less return shipping costs. Please note, original order shipping costs are non-refundable.

Yu Mei offers a Click & Collect service for our customers through our Yu Mei Lounges in Auckland and Wellington. For eligible items, select “Pick up” at checkout when shopping online.

Yes, digital gift cards can be purchased online at yumeibrand.com
Digital gift cards are delivered by email and contain instructions to redeem them at checkout.
Gift cards are valid for 3 years from the date of purchase and are valued in NZD. If your gift card was purchased in USD or AUD, the balance will be automatically converted to NZD at the time of redemption.
Physical and digital gift cards can also be purchased at our Yu Mei Lounges. Both options are available in amounts from $50 to $1000 or customisable in our lounges. They can be redeemed in-store or online.

Our gift cards are valid for 3 years from date of issue.

If you have an Afterpay account, you can use this to pay for your order if you're sending it to any address in New Zealand, Australia, Canada, United States or United Kingdom.
The amount you pay is the currency of the country you are purchasing from and converted into NZ dollars at time of purchase.

Due to the nature of unique wear on each individual bag, it is imperative that Yu Mei appraises each bag in person. Our craftsmen will examine every centimetre of the bag for signs of wear and abrasion, a process that cannot be replicated virtually. Uploading photos below may speed this process but does not negate the need for in-house appraisal. Deliver to a Yu Mei store or send your bag to the Yu Mei Studio.
Upon receipt of your bag, Yu Mei will assess the condition of the bag including any repairs or refurshiment necessary. You may be asked to verify the date and place of purchase. If the bag is not deemed to be fit for future resale, a refurbishment quote will be generated. This process can take up to two weeks depending on the nature of wear and the time of year in the production cycle. You will be notified with an offer of credit if accepted, or a quote for refurbishment if rejected. Refurbishment can take a further two weeks. Yu Mei endeavours to refurbish and return your bag in a timely fashion, but the nature of bespoke repairs means wait times may exceed this window if specific hardware is out of stock.
Depending on the style and condition of the bag, you can expect an offer between $50 - $150 for your used Yu Mei bag. The credit can only be redeemed online at www.yumeibrand.com or at a Yu Mei store. Credit will not be accepted by Yu Mei retailers.
Acceptance into the Carried Again initiative is at the sole discretion of Yu Mei. To ensure a useful, quality stock of second life products, Yu Mei reserves the right to reject any bag which it deems to be unfit for future resale. While minor blemishes are regarded as hallmarks of the premium quality of the deer nappa, extreme wear or significant damage compromises saleability in cases where refurbishment cannot adequately address the wear. Yu Mei does not accept sample or end of line bags purchased at sample sales into the Carried Again initiative, or any items gifted with purchase. Only Yu Mei bags purchased from Yu Mei stores (including online), or official Yu Mei retailers will be considered.
If Yu Mei does not accept your bag, you will be sent a refurbishment service quote. If you accept this, your bag will be cleaned, repaired, refurbished and shipped back to you upon payment for the service. Return shipping is complimentary. You may also be sent care instructions specific to the style and material of your Yu Mei bag, or recommended specific care products.
Refurbishment is performed on a case-by-case basis and can include the following processes:
- Water resistant leather coating
- Hydrating leather treatment
- Suede colour protectant
- Repair of cotton drill lining
- Hardware replacement
Some refurbishments are unable to be offered such as scratch repairs, re-embossing and recolouring of certain styles.
Yu Mei will contact you to present an offer. If you accept, the bag will be retained and you will be issued a gift voucher equal to the offer value. If you decline the offer, Yu Mei will offer an optional paid refurbishment service before shipping your bag back to you at no extra cost.
Use a leather balm and waterproofing spray regularly to hydrate and protect the leather. Avoid contact with oils, cosmetics, perfumes, food, and rough surfaces.
Yes—marks, tone shifts, and patina are natural characteristics of leather. These signs of wear are part of its story and a reflection of its authenticity.
Let it dry naturally, away from direct heat or sunlight. Never use a hairdryer, heater, or dryer. See our full leather and suede care guides here.
To help maintain its shape, keep your Yu Mei in its original dust bag and gently fill it with acid-free tissue. Alternatively, you can use a garment made of a natural fibre, like cotton or wool.
Apply a suede protector before first use and regularly after. If wet, let it dry naturally, then restore the nap with a soft brush. Avoid placing it on rough surfaces. See our full suede care guide here.
No—wipe with a damp cloth or soft brush and mild detergent. Avoid machine washing, soaking, or bleach. Keep cleaning products away from any leather components.
