Yu Mei leather pieces are crafted from natural materials that will stand the test of time—if properly cared for. Marks, tone shifts, and grain variations are natural characteristics of leather—not flaws. Over time, your piece will develop a unique patina that should be celebrated. These signs of wear are part of its story and a reflection of its authenticity.
If you plan to store your piece for an extended period, keep it in its original dust bag and gently fill it with acid-free tissue paper to help maintain its shape.
Unlike synthetic or heavily processed leathers, Yu Mei's leathers—Deer Nappa, Lambskin, and Cowhide—are intentionally soft and natural. This means that slightly more care and attention is required.
To maintain the condition of your bag, we recommend applying a leather balm and a waterproofing spray regularly. These treatments will hydrate the leather and help protect against moisture and everyday use. Light-coloured leathers require additional care, as marks and stains will be more visible.
With all leathers, avoid contact with rough or abrasive surfaces, as well as oils, cosmetics, perfumes, food, drink, and alcohol-based products, which can permanently stain or alter the leather.
If your bag becomes wet, allow it to dry naturally, away from direct heat. Never use an iron, hairdryer, heater, or dryer.
Suede is a delicate, porous leather that needs extra attention. Treat with Yu Mei’s suede-specific protector spray before first use, and regularly thereafter, to help prevent watermarks and stains. If it gets wet, let it dry naturally—away from heat and sunlight—then gently brush the nap with a suede brush or soft toothbrush.
It’s normal for suede to shed some fibres with use. A lint roller or tape can help remove excess fibres. Always avoid placing your suede bag on rough surfaces.
UTILITY by Yu Mei pieces are crafted from ECONYL® regenerated nylon—a performance textile made from recovered ocean and landfill waste. While it’s more resilient than leather, it still requires thoughtful care to preserve its look and longevity.
To clean, gently wipe with a damp cloth or use a soft brush with mild, eco-friendly detergent. Avoid machine washing, soaking, or bleach. If the bag features leather straps, be sure to keep cleaning products away from these areas.
Although ECONYL® is water-resistant, it’s not impervious to stains. For best results, spot clean promptly and avoid prolonged exposure to dirt, oils, and abrasive surfaces.
