"Under the Same Sun" Club Yu Mei Newspaper: Edition 01
A stack of Club Yu Mei: Edition 01 Newspapers, designed by Joshua Briones Yap & Natasha Mead of 1of1 Studio, photographed by Claudia Smith in Sydney, Australia.
Club Yu Mei exists, first and foremost, to tell the stories of our community. Here, we introduce the first edition of the Club Yu Mei Newspaper. Download your copy of the publication via our online store, or visit one of our three Lounge locations for a physical copy.
Each Yu Mei bag is born from a base sense of utility, designed to carry everything you actually need in a day. They’re named after friends of Yu Mei, whose needs inspired the bag's design. Because our bags are by and for real people, a community organically built itself around us. Forward thinking individuals who understand craft, quality and reductive design came together to champion a brand that is the antithesis of opulence and logos. We now refer to this community as ‘Club Yu Mei’, and have compiled the stories of people who inspire and encourage us into our first Club Yu Mei Newspaper.
Interested in how each person moves through the world, we introduce ‘In The Bag’ - a segment that delves into the daily lives of Yu Mei friends and inspirations, from mothers to models to meditation teachers. Together they provide insightful recommendations on everything from skincare to salad dressings, Portuguese electronic music to how to meet new people.
We also share recipes from two kindred restaurants on Karangahape Road (AKL) and Williams St (NSW) — two simple dishes that hero the humble summer tomato.
Finally, artists Harry Culy and Emma + Richard Jarman have submitted photographs from each side of the Tasman — a sunrise in Sydney, and the sun setting on a native bush in Waipukarau (NZ).
From Aotearoa to Australia, there’s comfort in knowing we’re Under The Same Sun.
