About Objects by Women

Time deepens appreciation of design and craft—our affection for a carefully thrown mug or finely made chair grows the longer we live with them. Objects by Women gives the work of eleven designers space to be observed and appreciated in crisp surrounds usually occupied by contemporary art.

Presented by Yu Mei, in partnership with Range Rover and Gow Langsford for New Zealand Fashion Week, this one-day exhibition brings together practices not often shown side by side—weaving, ceramics, woodwork, welding—with utility as the common thread.

The exhibition marks the debut of Yu Mei’s Pania bag. Developed over more than three years of testing and iteration, it is presented alongside the work of fellow designers and makers from a variety of disciplines who similarly balance utility, craft and material experimentation.

Marking Range Rover’s second consecutive year partnering with Yu Mei on a design-led event at New Zealand Fashion Week, Objects by Women extends the brand's dialogue with craft and material culture. Following last year’s Matters of Material: a conversation on the power of provenance in design, it reflects Range Rover’s enduring commitment to design and craftsmanship, and its support for the makers shaping Aotearoa’s creative community.
