The Club Yu Mei Guide to The Art of Packing

Allow us to formally introduce ‘The Art of Packing’ from our Autumn Winter 21 collection: in short, it's a packing system to simplify and streamline your carrying. It began as a study in carrying a lot while looking effortless, and was informed by our own experiences of long haul travel, coupled with rigorous testing and innumerable design iterations. We believe it extends further, into a philosophy of optimisation and living with purpose - through utility, care, and conscious consumption.

We designed our range of leather goods to complement the needs of modern life. With a focus on utility and function, our modular collection works like chapters in a book, so you can build on your library the way that suits your lifestyle. Because there are already enough obstacles in life and finding your keys needn't be one of them.

Considered design for smart carrying, follow our step-by-step guide to the art of packing below.

Our Sonja Bag in Doeskin: a practical holdall for work or play

The keeper of all things. What do you carry in a day? Do you like to throw everything in or prefer to keep organised with separate pockets and compartments? Should it embody a casual drape or might you need something more structured for your professional self?

Our best-selling Braidy Bag is universally popular for its ability to hold a 13" laptop. The bag’s shape was inspired by the now-obsolete plastic shopping bag, with a triangular shape in the gusset. Designed to bear weight, Braidy’s namesake needed a bag that could fit all her essentials for a studious day in the library. Discover Braidy

The Sonja Bag is the Mary Poppins of top handle totes. Designed after a fabulous woman who traverses the globe with her trusty Birkin, we designed this bag as a nuanced nod to the iconic style. Sonja can comfortably carry a laptop, makeup pouch, smaller clutch and eyeglass case, which naturally Sonja herself would have in a matching Doeskin nappa set. Discover Sonja

Our Claudia Tote is the thinking woman's bag. Ample room to pack for overnight or as a carry-on, Claudia is unfussy in shape and practical in proportion. Discover her clever back pocket that unzips at the bottom, doubling as a sleeve to slide over your suitcase handle. Never again will you need to pretend to effortlessly tote your carry-on as if it's well under the 7kg limit. Discover Claudia

The Claudia Tote, designed to take you from the boarding gate to the board room. Claudia is the perfect weekender or overnight size, and includes zippable pocket to slide over your suitcase handles for effortless airport communting.

The Braidy Bag in Dried Herb nappa. The first Yu Mei bag that we designed has undergone only a few minor tweaks since its original design. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

You wouldn't guess it by her slim profile and classical proportions, but the Sonja Bag can carry a laptop, our Emily Pouch for makeup, Adrian Envelope, Sebastian Wallet, and more.

'Medium formats' are implements to keep your bag contents organised. In a medium size, these add-ons have been designed to fit into holdalls of a larger size - Braidy, Claudia, Jane, Sonja. This range includes a laptop folio, makeup pouch and document envelope.

The Bolton Laptop Folio is a clever design that fits within a larger holdall (Sonja, Claudia) or functions on its own with a removable webbing strap. No more unsightly padded laptop carriers or tired canvas book bags - Bolton is the answer to sleek tech protection.

With a slim footprint and ample depth, the Emily Pouch makes for an ideal makeup or cosmetics carrier. We designed this to zip open wide for better visibility and reduced fumbling, as well as an interior compartment for brushes.

Our Adrian Envelope houses your most important documents before doubling as an understated clutch. With a slim profile and five interior card slots, slip Adrian under your arm like a newspaper, only more posh.
